United States: At least 12 injured, two of them seriously, after shooting near a festival in Ohio

At least 12 people were injured Saturday afternoon after a shooting that occurred near a community street festival in the city of Toledo, in the state of Ohio, according to local police.

According to authorities, officers responded to a report of a person shot near the Old West End Festival around 5:30 p.m. (6:30 p.m. Chile time). Upon arrival, they found several gunshot victims, the police department said in a statement.

That initial report indicated that several of the injured were transported to nearby hospitals, although it did not provide details on the severity of their injuries, their age, or identity.

However, a few hours later, investigators confirmed that at least 12 people suffered gunshot wounds. Of these, 10 are stable and two remain in critical condition.

Similarly, they reaffirmed that the search for the suspect or suspects is active, and that work continues to determine the circumstances of the shooting.

Shortly after the incident, residents and visitors were asked to avoid the area, while a significant police contingent had been deployed to the scene. Additionally, several roads in the area were closed.

Witnesses who attended the festival reported hearing several shots and seeing people fleeing the scene, according to ABC.

The Old West End Festival is a two-day celebration in Toledo’s historic district that includes live music, food and souvenir stalls, along with tours of historic homes.

Sergeant Mohamad Nasser, a spokesperson for the Toledo Police Department, said at the time that more information would be posted on the department’s Facebook and X accounts.
