According to the statement, the devices represented an “imminent threat” to merchant vessels and international maritime traffic transiting the strategic commercial waterway.

“Earlier today, U.S. forces in the Middle East shot down two Iranian one-way attack drones that were threatening international maritime traffic in the Strait of Hormuz,” CENTCOM reported via its social media channels.

Furthermore, the North American military body stressed that its troops remain in a high state of alert in the region, prepared to continue defending the interests of its allies and respond to any new aggression by Tehran.

Thus, the ceasefire remains fragile between the U.S. and Iran, after last Friday CENTCOM destroyed six missiles and four Iranian drones that were headed towards the Strait of Hormuz and some of the neighboring Gulf countries.

In response, Washington bombed coastal surveillance radar stations in Goruk and on Qeshm Island, in a new escalation of tension in the region.
