“We are talking about innocent people who have lost their lives trying to access our city,” said Miguel Ángel Pérez, the Government delegate. Most of the victims died trying to reach the autonomous city located in North Africa by sea, in the context of the massive entry of people from Morocco.
According to Pérez, to face the emergency “the State security forces and bodies have increased from 696 agents in the city to 1,042.” Among the deployed devices and agents are eight divers distributed in two groups and a helicopter.

In any case, the Ceuta authority stated in a press conference that “we can now say that the city now has nothing to do with the first 24 hours.” Work continues on the ground in the autonomous city and maritime service will be reinforced in the coming days.
The delegate admitted that the number of people still pending to leave is a complex figure that is still being verified, and that the final numbers will be delivered by the Ministry of the Interior when they have them. “Right now what we are verifying is that there are many fewer people than there were in subsequent days and progress is being made in this,” he indicated.
