Kenneth A. Howery, United States Ambassador to Denmark, celebrated the agreement reached between Washington and Denmark and Greenland, with which the U.S. will assume a permanent role in the security and defense of the Arctic territory.
After a dispute that pitted the three nations against each other for months, the arrangement was announced this past September 18 by the U.S. President, Donald Trump. Thus, the Republican explained that his country will have permanent control over the security of Greenland.
The measure has already been confirmed by Mette Frederiksen and Jens-Fredrik Nielsen, the Danish Prime Minister and the Prime Minister of Greenland.
During this Saturday, the U.S. Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, emphasized that the agreement permanently guarantees Washington’s security interests in the Arctic “at no cost to American taxpayers.”

“Greenland will always be part of North America’s strategic defense area,” Rubio declared.
In response to the Secretary of State’s statements on social media, Ambassador Howery highlighted that “this is a great victory for the United States, Denmark, Greenland, and all our allies in the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).”
He also mentioned that he looks forward to working with “partners and friends” throughout the Kingdom of Denmark to implement this “historic agreement” and to strengthen security and defense in the Arctic.
