The president of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, announced this Monday the dismissal of Olga Stefanishina as the country’s ambassador to the United States.
The decision comes after the president traveled to the North American country last week to request new Patriot missiles to face the attacks from Russia.
“Olga Vitalivna Stefanishina is dismissed from the position of extraordinary and plenipotentiary ambassador of Ukraine to the United States,” reads a presidential decree, which does not provide details on who will replace her.
The Ukrainian diplomat, for her part, announced on her social networks her “resignation” from the position, stating that it is a “personal decision, motivated by personal circumstances.”
Stefanishina highlighted that during her time as head of the diplomatic mission in the United States, a position she held since August 2025, “we increased the supply of American weaponry and maintained support precisely when the political landscape in Washington was not favorable to us.”

“We have enshrined this support in laws that will endure regardless of the change of administration. And, most importantly, we have transformed Ukraine’s role: from a country that receives aid to a country that receives investments and whose technologies are acquired,” she added.
Furthermore, she assured that representing her country in the North American country “at a time when it is waging a war for its survival has been the greatest honor of my life.”
“Just as it was an honor to open Ukraine’s path to the European Union as vice prime minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration, and to promote reforms in the justice sector as Minister of Justice,” she said, before expressing her gratitude to Zelensky for the “trust” and the “opportunity” he has given her.
“I will continue working for Ukraine and our victory wherever I can be useful,” she added.
