The United States Court of Appeals ruled this Friday that President Donald Trump must seek Congress’s authorization to build the enormous “ballroom” he wants to erect where the East Wing of the White House used to be.

The court judges, in a ruling issued with two votes in favor and one against, consider that the construction of the ballroom “is a decision for Congress and not a unilateral matter for the Executive.”
The plaintiffs demanding the suspension of the works, represented by the National Trust for Historic Preservation, have “convincingly” demonstrated that at no time has Congress ceded its authority for the Executive “to redesign or rebuild the White House, which is the People’s House, to satisfy the wishes of any particular president,” referring to Trump.
Trump conceives the “ballroom” as the symbol of his time at the White House; a project whose estimated budget has been rising over the months. An estimate from a contractor published in June by the ‘Washington Post’ spoke of a provisional budget of 600 million dollars.
The President of the United States assures that the monumental work will not cost a cent to Americans and will be financed by friends of the president, such as Jeff Bezos, CEO of Amazon, but the American newspaper’s document pointed out that half of the budget could come from taxes.
