In the group’s version, the song is completely reinvented. The arrangement transforms it into a very lively cumbia with touches of tex-mex with the presence of accordion, combined with brass figures and electric guitar phrases with an 80s vibe.
Me Voy is the first track of the album Chilengos (A colloquial term derived from “Chilangos” used to refer to people born or living in Mexico City), a project that crosses the universes of Chile and Mexico in a danceable tone.
“This new work is a greeting to this beautiful cultural relationship that exists between Mexico and Chile. Since I can remember, I watched Cantinflas, listened to Juan Gabriel or Luis Miguel. I remember when Zamorano went to play for América, etc… Finally, everything related to Mexican popular culture is very present in Chile. There are many festivals that use Mexican singing as a concept and that happens in many parts of the south. With this album, we want to rescue that musical link and we have had more than seven tours in Mexico, we have a lot of affection for that country,” says Rodrigo “Negro” Medel.

At the same time, the musician comments that many Chilean artists have made a successful path in the northern country, among them; La Ley, Mon Laferte, Los Búnkers, Los Tres or Los Ángeles Negros; “This album is born as a greeting to that cultural and emotional link that means the synergy that exists between Chilean artists who succeed there and many Mexican figures who have also influenced us here,” Medel asserts.
Me Voy is a song that the world knows and the band wanted to start this new stage with it. Also, they are admirers of Julieta Venegas’ work and career. “She has affection for Chile. She has had ties with our country and has come many times. We started with her because we believed that the first song had to be by a woman since it usually happens that there is always a secondary evaluation versus a man. Added to that is that it is a song we like a lot,” he emphasizes.
