Collision between minivan and truck causes nine deaths in Cusco

A fatal traffic accident between a minivan and a trailer truck occurred this Saturday in the city of Cusco, Peru.

The vehicles collided around 2:00 a.m. (07:00 GMT) this Saturday at kilometer 250 of the regional road to Arequipa, in the district of Pallpata, Espinar province.

The minivan hit the rear of the cargo truck, which had apparently stopped on the route, according to the Peruvian media La República. The causes of the accident are still under investigation.

Preliminarily, the crash left a toll of nine dead and six injured, who were assisted by the Highway Police and taken to the Espinar hospital.

According to the mentioned newspaper, among the injured are one man and five women. The deceased include the driver of the smaller vehicle and eight passengers, consisting of three women and five men.

On site, the National Police and the Public Ministry are carrying out the corresponding procedures regarding the collision.
