Israel’s Minister of Security, Itamar Ben Gvir, recommended carrying out selective assassinations of “between 30 and 40” Palestinians each night in the Gaza Strip, including people who, in his own words, do not pose an immediate threat.

The statements were made on the podcast “October 8”, hosted by the released Israeli hostage Rom Braslavski, and were reported by the Israeli newspaper Times of Israel.
“It seems to me that selective assassinations should be carried out in Gaza and to take out between 30 and 40 (Gazans) each night. Not only those who pose an immediate threat,” Ben Gvir said.
The minister, who has on more than one occasion called for the extermination of the Palestinian population, also raised again the issue of complete occupation of the Gaza Strip and the expulsion of its entire population.
“There are people there who do not deserve to live. Nor should they live. They are not even people,” he said, before insisting that “all of Gaza belongs to Israel”, beyond the Gush Katif settlements that were evacuated 20 years ago.

Ben Gvir also raised again the issue of population displacement from Gaza: “Migration must be encouraged as much as possible. For terrorists, no migration, nothing, just kill them one by one,” he said.
His statements have on more than one occasion been condemned by much of the international community, including Israel’s allies such as the United States.
Gvir has built his political career around ultranationalist and anti-Arab positions. As Minister of National Security, one of his main functions is the control of the Israeli Police, as well as the management of various prisons where Palestinians report numerous cases of torture.
