The President of the United States, Donald Trump, confirmed this Tuesday that “there are no conversations or dialogue” planned with Iran and that the naval blockade over the Strait of Hormuz remains in effect after the agreement signed between the parties last June expired.
“There are no ongoing or scheduled conversations or dialogue with the Islamic Republic of Iran. The naval blockade remains fully in effect. The Strait of Hormuz is open and operational. All naval mines have been removed or detonated,” he stated in a message posted on his social media.
Shortly before, the White House chief published an image in which he declared the strait as “new territory” of the United States, amid the cross rhetoric between Washington and Tehran after the expiration of the 14-point memorandum of understanding, which contemplated a truce to negotiate a definitive agreement within 60 days.
The plan included the Iranian nuclear issue, the toll-free reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, and the creation of a reconstruction fund for Iran of 300 billion dollars. It also set the end of U.S. sanctions, including those within the United Nations or the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and all direct or secondary sanctions from Washington.
