The Kremlin confirmed this Wednesday the arrival in Moscow of the CIA director, John Ratcliffe, on a surprise visit in which no meeting with the Russian president, Vladimir Putin, is planned with no confirmation of the agenda from Washington so far.
“No meetings (between Ratcliffe) and the president are planned,” said the Kremlin spokesman, Dmitry Peskov, in brief statements collected by the Russian news agency Interfax.
“All I can say is that there have been contacts through the Intelligence services,” he pointed out, before emphasizing that Putin is being informed of “the results of the contacts.” “Certainly, Putin is being informed immediately of everything,” he highlighted.
He also stressed that the fact that there are contacts between the Intelligence services of both countries is “a positive phenomenon”. “These contacts often continue even during the most difficult moments in bilateral relations,” he argued, according to the TASS agency.

However, he qualified that for now “it is too early to say what impact this will have on the overall process of recovering bilateral relations from the deep crisis they are in,” following the contacts made after the return of the U.S. president, Donald Trump, to the White House in January 2025.
The confirmation by the Kremlin comes hours after various media reported the arrival of the CIA director in Moscow on a Boeing C-17, although neither the U.S. government nor the Intelligence agency have made statements about it.
