The Polish Defense Minister, Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz, reported this Tuesday that the authorities are strengthening their border zone with Ukraine, which is more than 500 kilometers long, following the Russian attack last Sunday on Ukrainian territory but very close to the border with Poland.
“We are strengthening the protection of our border crossings with Ukraine,” he stated on his social media, pointing to the increase of the “infrastructure” used by the Border Guard.
Kosiniak-Kamysz, who indicated that the military of the 18th Engineer Regiment are already working on it, highlighted that the decision of Donald Tusk’s government comes in response to Russia’s actions in “recent days,” which “pose a threat to the security of all Europe.”
His statements come after a train with more than 200 people on board – according to Ukrainian authorities – was hit by an attack launched on Sunday against a point located on Ukrainian territory near the border with Poland, which led Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk to call an emergency meeting of the Security Cabinet that same day.
The train was running on a track used shortly before by another train carrying former British and Swedish Prime Ministers Boris Johnson and Carl Bildt along with other European diplomats after attending a security conference held in the Ukrainian capital, Kyiv.
That same Monday, the Russian government rejected the accusations against it for this attack, which left no victims, assuring that it was launched “exclusively against military facilities and military transport and logistical infrastructure used by the Kiev regime, also in western Ukraine,” in the words of the Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman, Maria Zakharova.
