The Kremlin considers Trump’s proposal for an energy truce between Russia and Ukraine “a very good idea”

The Kremlin highlighted this Tuesday that the proposal by the President of the United States, Donald Trump, for a truce between Russia and Ukraine in attacks on infrastructure is “a very good idea,” following the surge in this type of attacks in recent weeks, within the framework of the invasion of Ukraine, unleashed in February 2022.

“In general, we consider this a very good idea, a good initiative,” said the spokesperson for the Russian Presidency, Dmitry Peskov, according to the Russian newspaper ‘Izvestia’. “We are in contact with the Americans. We are always on the side of peaceful solutions,” he emphasized.

Thus, he highlighted that this truce could facilitate a total operation in Russian refineries, although he stated that, by itself, it will not solve the supply problems of global markets, something that involves lifting restrictions on supplies to Moscow and ensuring the safety of oil tankers.

Trump announced on Monday that Ukraine and Russia had agreed to stop attacking each other’s energy infrastructure. “Ukraine has agreed not to attack Russian energy targets. Russia has agreed to do the same!” said the White House occupant in a message posted on social media.

After that, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed Kiev’s willingness to cease attacks on energy infrastructure and also on the food sector and “other critical infrastructures,” provided that Moscow does the same “genuinely.”
