The Vice President of the United States, JD Vance, stated this Tuesday that the war with Iran will enter a new phase “in a couple of months,” providing a new nuance on the extension of the military offensive driven by the administration of Donald Trump, who had said that the conflict will end “just after” the U.S. midterm elections to be held on November 3.

“We cannot predict the future, but I believe President Trump is right in saying that this will enter a very different phase within a couple of months”, Vance said in an interview with the online newspaper New York Post, referring to the timeline outlined by Trump, which placed the end of the war shortly after the midterms or even before.
In any case, the U.S. Executive’s ‘number two’ emphasized that Trump, besides being president, “is also the commander in chief, so he is the one who determines when conflicts begin and when they end.”
“Actually, this consists of two phases, and the first one has already concluded,” Vance acknowledged, arguing that “the first phase consisted of destroying the nuclear program (of Iran), dismantling its conventional military capacity, and ending its ability to project power as it did just a couple of years ago.”

Although the vice president did not detail in which phase the conflict currently is nor which would begin in November according to his calculations, he did emphasize that “the United States is not currently carrying out aggressive operations.”
“We simply are not doing it,” he stressed, after assuring he perfectly understands “that there is some impatience among Americans” regarding the hostilities.
“What does happen is that the Iranians occasionally fire on commercial ships, although usually without success,” he accused, despite the fact that, on the contrary, Iranian authorities have denounced in recent days U.S. attacks on a merchant ship and several other vessels in the Strait of Hormuz.
