Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk denounced on Thursday that a Russian projectile, probably a missile, violated Polish airspace, as part of a “massive” attack by Moscow against western Ukraine, and fell on Polish territory.

“During the massive Russian missile attack against western Ukraine, there was a violation of Polish airspace,” he said in a message on social media, prior to the urgent convening of a security meeting with senior officials from the Ministry of Defense.
Tusk indicated that the Polish forces were prepared to shoot down the “missile” if it had continued its trajectory, stressing that, pending initial confirmation, it is believed to have been a Russian Kh-101 cruise missile.
The incident took place in Bilgoraj County, near the border with Ukraine, where, after hearing a loud bang, local police found “a crater and remains of an unidentified object,” the Interior Ministry reported, while the Defense Minister, Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz, framed the episode within the “large-scale war” that Russia is waging in Ukraine.

“We are only meters away from that war. Tonight once again reminds us all that the situation is very serious and represents a threat,” emphasized the Polish Defense official.
In any case, Tusk stressed that the situation is under control and that the Army, Police, State Fire Service, and special services “are working in full coordination”. “We maintain permanent contact with the President of the Republic of Poland and NATO command,” he said, emphasizing that he is in contact with the leaders of European countries and “all” declared “their full solidarity and willingness to provide all possible assistance” to Warsaw.
For his part, government spokesman Adam Szlapka reported that the Polish prime minister is heading precisely “to the place where the projectile that violated Polish airspace fell,” after holding a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in the city of Lublin, near the area hit by a Russian projectile.
