Israel justified this Thursday the latest attacks against targets of the Shiite party-militia Hezbollah in southern Lebanon due to the presence of “terrorist infrastructure” despite the ceasefire in effect and amid the seventh round of talks to end the conflict in Italy, which has been called into question by the events on the ground.

“During the security forces’ operations in the area, thousands of infrastructures used by the terrorist organization Hezbollah were located, including: headquarters, outposts, launch platforms, observation posts, underground infrastructures, and numerous weapons,” the Army said in a statement.
The Israeli Defense Forces have argued that Hezbollah has established “over the years” activities in rural areas of the south, “implanting terrorist infrastructures in the heart of the civilian population” and cynically exploiting “Lebanese residents,” thus putting them “at risk.”
Negotiations between the parties in the Italian capital, Rome, have been called into question due to the latest attacks, which have so far left two Israeli soldiers dead and four others injured by an explosive device in the town of Majdal Zun, in southern Lebanon.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his wife Sara have mourned the death of both soldiers – identified as Major Harel Birenstock and Sergeant Major Tamir Vaknin – whom he described as “brave fighters” who “fought heroically to defend the inhabitants of the north and the State of Israel.”
“We express our deepest condolences to the families who have lost their most precious loved ones and wish a speedy and full recovery to the fighters who were injured in that same incident,” the statement said.
Meanwhile, the Lebanese Ministry of Health confirmed the day before that an airstrike against the city of Tebnine, in the Bint Jbeil district, left one dead and at least twelve injured. Likewise, Lebanese authorities reported this Thursday that another eight people were injured by Israeli airstrikes against the city of Burj al Shamali.
The Israeli Army carried out attacks the day before against the Tyre district, also in the south of the country, shortly after issuing a forced evacuation order for residents of the municipality of Al Mansuri, where about 1,500 residents still remained this July, according to local authorities.
