Swedish police confirmed this Saturday that a 17-year-old girl died after a teenager attacked students at a school in Fagersta with a sword, a town located in the center of the Nordic country and northwest of Stockholm.

Three other people were injured in the incident that occurred on Friday during classes at Brinell School, including two minors, aged 12 and 17, who suffered minor injuries, according to The Guardian.
The third victim, who is also a student, suffered minor injuries and has already been discharged from the hospital, according to the Swedish news agency TT.
The parents of the 17-year-old victim confirmed to the local media Fagersta-Posten that their daughter died after the attack.
The police reported that the 18-year-old suspect was arrested and that the case is being investigated as homicide and attempted homicide. They added that they have no reason to believe there are more perpetrators.
A police source also detailed that it is being investigated whether the accused was involved in online communities that promoted school violence.
It was also revealed that, so far, two home searches related to the suspect have been carried out and numerous witnesses are expected to be interviewed as part of the investigation.
The director of the educational center, for his part, confirmed during this day to the local media P4 Västmanland that the attacker was a former student of the school.

As reported by TT, on Saturday morning around 70 people gathered at the memorial site prepared by the municipality of Fagersta, located in Vastmanland County, bringing flowers and lighting candles.
The Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson, who also visited the site today, expressed his solidarity with the families affected by the attack and with all those who have been victims of previous school assaults in Sweden.
“What should never have happened, has happened again”, said Kristersson.
Sweden has been the scene of a series of violent attacks in schools over the years, as AP recalled.
Last year, 11 people, including the attacker, died after an attack at an educational center in Örebro, in central Sweden, which is considered the worst mass shooting in the country’s history and led the government to propose stricter gun laws.
In 2022, meanwhile, an 18-year-old attacked two teachers with a knife and an axe at a school in Malmö, causing their deaths, and in 2015 a 21-year-old stabbed three people at a school in the southern industrial city of Trollhättan.
The latter case was classified by authorities as a racist hate crime, stating that the killer methodically selected dark-skinned victims at the Kronan school in that town, where most students are foreigners.
