To avoid the extremes duel, last night, social democrat Raphaël Glucksman announced his candidacy on television: “Yes, I am a candidate for the presidential election,” said the leader of the center-right Public Square in an interview on the TF1 channel, showing Atlanticist and Europeanist conviction to distance himself from Mélenchon.
Between these two left-wing options, the ecologists are divided, who seem not to capitalize on the climate alarm generated by the devastating fires of this boreal summer. The idea of a united left seems more impossible than ever and to this context, a hypothetical candidacy of former socialist president François Hollande may be added, who paradoxically publishes a book titled “Unite.”
The other candidate seeking to prevent an extremes duel is the one who will emerge from the battle of the center-right parties, led by two former prime ministers of Macron: Édouard Philippe (2017-2020) and Gabriel Attal (2024). Both are currently touring France to gather support, with Philippe starting as the favorite to the detriment of the young Attal, whom many once saw as a Macron protégé. The teams of these contenders acknowledge being in negotiations, knowing that there is only room for one.
