The president of the Iranian Parliament and head of the Iranian negotiating team in talks with the United States, Mohamed Baqer Qalibaf, assured this Thursday that Iran is already facing a “total economic war,” but emphasized that “the enemy will also be defeated in this field.”

“We will see the Government, after placing its trust in the power of the people and the private sector, as well as in all elements of the ‘establishment,’ defeat the enemy in this field as well,” he said in statements collected by the Mehr news agency. “Thank God we will soon witness the discrediting of the enemy’s psychological operations in this area,” he maintained.
In this regard, he pointed out that “at a time when the war has created direct consequences on the country’s economy, the enemy has deployed all its capabilities to exert greater pressure on the Iranian people.” In response, he maintained, “the authorities have implemented effective measures to govern and address their weaknesses”, as he highlighted.
“Under such circumstances, heeding the emphatic recommendations of the supreme leader regarding unity, national cohesion, and trust (…) is the most important support for the country’s officials to overcome challenges and improve the position of the Islamic Republic of Iran,” he asserted.

Likewise, he claimed that, “in momentous circumstances, the Government must preserve the country’s values, prioritize the livelihood of the population, their purchasing power, youth employment, and economic security, as well as alleviate the burden weighing on the shoulders of the people.”
On the other hand, White House spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt said in statements to Fox News that Tehran is already feeling the “devastating” sanctions announced by the United States. “Its economy, as we already know, is in free fall. They are in a devastating situation,” she said, reiterating that its inflation is over 100% and it cannot pay salaries to police and military personnel.
Leavitt emphasized that this comes after the military operation that “was very successful in weakening the Iranian regime militarily.”
