The United States Central Command (CENTCOM) has raised to 75 the number of ships blocked in the waters of the Strait of Hormuz, amid the perimeter lockdown decreed by Washington in the area due to stalled negotiations with Iran and the start of a new phase of economic strangulation.

“The United States continues to enforce the blockade against Iran. As of August 27, CENTCOM forces have diverted 75 commercial ships, disabled three, and boarded two to ensure compliance,” the military entity stated in a social media release.
Washington, which maintains its naval blockade on Iran, has taken a new step in the war by declaring an “economic war” against the Central Asian country, a measure adopted after the 60-day deadline given by the United States and Iran to reach a global agreement to end the open conflict following the US-Israeli offensive launched last February 28 expired.

That same Thursday, White House spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt told Fox News that Tehran already feels the “devastating” sanctions announced by the United States. “Its economy, as we already know, is in free fall. They are in a devastating situation,” she said, reiterating that inflation in Iran is over 100% and it cannot pay the salaries of police and military personnel.
