Days ago, the president stated that the American sanctions are ineffective, that his country remains firm, and that it has not “become Venezuela.”
However, this past Friday, on state television, he admitted that they are “in a state of war, and we must accept the conditions of these times.”
And indeed, on Monday, the Donald Trump administration announced the “Economic Pariah Operation”: a new offensive against Tehran’s economy, aimed at isolating it from the rest of the world.
The plan includes, among other factors, sanctions on the acquisition of military technology and missiles and on transportation operations, entities, individuals, and ships associated with obtaining oil revenues.

“Our goal is to cut every lifeline that supports the tyrannical regime, until Tehran is left alone,” reinforced U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, who referred to the package of measures as an “Economic D-Day.”
According to the media outlet DW, the president admitted that “it is evident that we have problems in the daily lives of the people,” and that if sanctions increase, inflation will rise.
Thus, Pezeshkian detailed that his country’s exports and imports have fallen between 25% and 35%, figures consistent with the U.S. blockade of Iran’s ports.
Due to this siege, and as a considerable amount of imports arrived by ship, Tehran “must seek different routes, buy at higher prices, and transport at a higher cost,” the Iranian authority stated. Along the same lines, he mentioned that oil routes have been affected.
