The Iranian Revolutionary Guard threatened this Wednesday to attack 10 U.S. targets in the Middle East for every American bombing against the country, following a new exchange of attacks between the two countries and the stalemate in the diplomatic route.
“If the enemy hits two of our targets, we will attack 20 targets,” said a spokesperson for the Revolutionary Guard, who emphasized that “this war has for the first time transferred strategic damage to the United States, affecting its economic and security equations,” according to the Iranian news agency Mehr.
Thus, he stated that “if the enemy wants this to end, it must completely stop the war and end its threats, the Israeli Army must withdraw from Lebanon, the siege on Yemen must be lifted, 24 billion dollars in Iranian assets must be unfrozen, and interference with Iran’s nuclear and ballistic capabilities must end.”
Later, the spokesperson for the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, Hosein Mohebi, confirmed that the perimeter of the so-called “restricted maritime zone” outside the Strait of Hormuz will extend from the coast of Chabahar to the Gulf of Oman and the Arabian Sea.
“The restricted zone practically begins in Chabahar and extends to part of the Sea of Oman and the Arabian Sea,” he explained, warning that any vessel attempting to transit this perimeter, whose coordinates will be announced “soon,” without prior authorization and tactical coordination with Iranian authorities will be sanctioned.
The measure, announced over the weekend by the Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council of Iran, Mohsen Rezaei, includes the suspension of maritime services, insurance, and logistical support to vessels entering the restricted zone, according to the IRNA news agency.
The initiative seeks to expand Tehran’s military supervision perimeter in response to the naval presence and blockade imposed by the United States in the area. Under the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), coastal states exercise full sovereignty over the strip of sea adjacent to their coasts up to a maximum limit of 12 nautical miles.
The United States has launched several waves of bombings against Iran in recent days, which has responded with attacks against U.S. interests in the region, amid the stalemate of the dialogue mediated by Pakistan to reach an agreement to end the open war started on February 28 by the offensive of the United States and Israel.
