Ukraine’s Foreign Minister, Andri Sibiga, stated this Saturday that the United States Congress must move forward to approve legislation that will strengthen sanctions against Russia, emphasizing that Moscow is intensifying its “campaign of terror” while the pressure on Russian President Vladimir Putin “remains insufficient.”
“Moscow is intensifying its campaign of terror against Ukraine, committing daily atrocious crimes against the civilian population and rejecting peace efforts,” the Foreign Minister warned in a social media message in which he cautions that Putin continues acting this way “because the pressure on his regime remains insufficient.”
In this way, he considered that the approval of the sanctions package designed by the late Senator Lindsey Graham “is of vital and urgent importance for Ukraine.”
“Strengthening sanctions against Russia is fundamental to advancing towards peace. The approval of this law will also be a well-deserved tribute to Lindsey Graham, a great American patriot and a true friend of Ukraine,” he emphasized.
Sibiga thus conveyed Kiev’s urgency for its allies to increase pressure on Russia at a time when the conflict in Ukraine is intensifying, as well as the attacks on civilian infrastructure in Ukraine and the long-range attacks launched by Kiev, which is striking targets on Russian soil.
At least four people have died and about 60 have been injured this Saturday in Russian attacks against several regions of Ukraine such as Zaporizhzhia, Odessa, Donetsk, Dnipropetrovsk, Sumy, or the capital itself, Kiev, in the context of the escalation of the conflict launched by Putin in February 2022 against the neighboring country.
