Seba Calfuqueo (Santiago de Chile, 1991), an artist of Mapuche origin, exhibits individually for the first time in Europe. The exhibition is called CAUTÍN and can be visited from October 6, 2026, to January 17, 2027, at the Museo Nacional Thyssen-Bornemisza in Madrid.

An artist with more than a decade exploring the tensions between Mapuche identity, territory, and memory, the exhibition is the culmination of more than two years of artistic and documentary research, a work that the TBA21 foundation has supported from its beginnings as a response to its commitment to art as a catalyst for social and environmental transformation.
“CAUTÍN is not an exhibition about a watercourse, but about a river understood as a meeting place”, explains curator Marina Avia Estrada, director of exhibitions and public programs at TBA21. The project is thus articulated through pieces that invite the viewer to travel the river upstream, from its mouth to its source at the Lonquimay volcano, deep in the Andes mountain range.

The exhibition has a planned double international itinerary: it will be shown in 2027 in Chile, at the Centro Cultural La Moneda, from May 13 to early September, and in 2028 it will travel to the United States, to New York, where it will be open to the public from January 13 to March 12 at The Wallach Art Gallery, located in the Lenfest Center for the Arts at Columbia University.
