China’s Defense Minister, Dong Jun, emphasized this Wednesday that the country must remain alert to the trends and different facets of “hegemonism, militarism, and revisionism.”

In statements from the Xiangshan security forum held in Beijing, the Defense Minister reiterated China’s position that the country must learn the lessons of history, referring to allegations of increased militarism by Japan, especially after the rise to power of Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi.
“The painful lessons of the world wars and the tragedies caused by current conflicts and turmoil warn that preventing crises before they erupt is an even more crucial approach to security management,” Dong argued, according to statements collected by the Xinhua agency.
The Defense Minister called for defending multilateralism, insisting that it is key to maintaining stability. In this way, he pointed to the United Nations as the central axis for an international order based on International Law.
Thus, he opened the door for China to support the building of Armed Forces in third countries. “Now that the Chinese Army is about to celebrate its centenary, we are accelerating our modernization drive. We are ready to share our experience and philosophy in the construction and management of the Armed Forces with all parties,” Dong assured.
In this regard, he pointed to “practical cooperation” with other countries “to generate more tangible results and achieve mutual success.”
Following the crisis experienced at the border with Nepal due to the devastating flood recorded on August 26, which left more than 1,400 dead and a thousand missing in both countries, Dong emphasized that the Chinese Army “is willing to do everything possible and provide help wherever necessary.”
“We will actively carry out joint early warnings for disasters, emergency response, humanitarian assistance, and public security cooperation, and support the development and security of all countries through concrete actions,” he elaborated.
