The United States Department of State has issued a “global alert” this Monday recommending its citizens “worldwide to exercise extreme caution,” citing that, amid “rising tensions in the Middle East,” Iran and groups supporting it could attack diplomatic missions and U.S. interests.
“The Department of State recommends that Americans worldwide exercise extreme caution,” reads a statement released by the office responsible for consular affairs, which warns that, “due to rising tensions in the Middle East, the security situation remains complex, with the possibility of an unforeseen escalation.”
Therefore, it has urged Americans currently in the Near East to “exercise extreme caution and vigilance,” as well as to “be prepared for possible flight cancellations, periodic airspace closures, and possible disruptions to their travel.”
Likewise, it has urged those outside the region to “reconsider their travel to the region or transit through it” if this is planned in their routes.
The danger, explained the department led by Marco Rubio, is due to the fact that “U.S. diplomatic facilities, even outside the Middle East, have been targets of attacks.”
“Iran and groups supporting it could attack other U.S. interests abroad or in places related to the United States and U.S. citizens worldwide,” it warned in this regard.
