The magnitude 7.4 earthquake on the Richter scale recorded this Monday in the municipality of San José del Palmar, in northwest Colombia, currently leaves 181 dead and more than 1,310 injured, according to the latest partial report offered by the Colombian Association of Capital Cities (Asocapitales).

The figures published by Asocapitales are a breakdown of the country’s capitals, so the number of victims is likely higher, as it excludes those that may have been registered in towns and localities affected by this tremor, which keeps Pereira, Cali, Quibdó, Manizales, and Armenia on red alert.
Pereira, the capital of the Risaralda department, which borders San José del Palmar (Chocó), the epicenter of the earthquake, concentrates the highest number of fatalities: 77 dead, according to the latest information from local authorities. According to the official report, another 37 people remain missing and 15 more are still trapped under the rubble of collapsed buildings.

Likewise, Asocapitales reported that there are 152 completely collapsed structures and more than 1,500 affected homes.
According to reports from the Colombian Geological Service (SGC), there have been 54 aftershocks. Most have only been felt in the department where the first movement started: Chocó. As of 6:10 p.m. on August 10, 47 had occurred. The others happened during the night and early morning.
