Hours before the momentous match against the Red Fury, the Rosario native shared an emotional message on his Instagram account. The publication, for many, had hints of a farewell. It could have signified the beginning of the end for the number 10 in the Argentine national team.
“The most beautiful thing about all these years was never just the titles, but the entire journey. Sharing the day-to-day with this group, competing together, getting up in difficult moments and enjoying every step,” Messi began by pointing out in the post.
The trans-Andean star shared a photograph where footballers, coaching staff, kit managers, and the rest of the Albiceleste workers appear: “Thanks to each of my teammates, the coaching staff, and all the people who work every day to keep this National Team a family,” he stated.
