In a message published on social media, they announced the activation of a Whatsapp channel called “Crisis Unit – Spain” entirely dedicated to managing procedures.

Likewise, the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs reminded that the operations room of the mentioned Reinforced Crisis Unit is now active 24 hours a day, while also recalling the phone numbers of its consulates in Madrid and Barcelona, as well as that of its vice-consulate in Tenerife.

The Spanish Government, it should be remembered, agreed to the temporary reinstatement of controls at the internal borders of ports and airports for travelers coming from Italy following the refusal of Giorgia Meloni’s Government to lift Spain’s suspension from the Schengen agreement.

According to government sources, this measure has been adopted due to “the persistent irregular migratory pressure suffered by the transalpine country.”

Border controls will be operational from 00:00 hours this Saturday, August 8, and will consist of identity and nationality checks of travelers by passport. In the case of third-country nationals, the visa or residence permit will be reviewed.
