President Claudia Sheinbaum reacted this Monday, through her official account on X, to the image that the President of the United States, Donald Trump, shared on Truth Social, which shows that the territory of the United States extends throughout North America, Central America, and the Caribbean, including Mexico.

“In the month of the homeland, we reaffirm that Mexico is not and will not be a colony or protectorate of any foreign country. Proudly, we are a free, independent, and sovereign country,” Sheinbaum wrote, in a message framed within the September celebrations for Mexico’s Independence.
Trump made his post on his platform Truth Social, where he shared a map of the continent in which the colors of the United States flag cover not only that nation but also Canada, Greenland, Mexico, the Caribbean islands, and the Central American countries.
Since Trump began his second presidential term on January 20, 2025, this is not the first time he has made comments about the possibility that the territory of the United States could expand, CNN reported.
Previously, he has said that his government is interested in Greenland becoming part of the United States, has suggested that Canada become the 51st state of the U.S., and decided to change the name of the Gulf of Mexico to “Gulf of America,” despite it being internationally recognized.
Both Denmark – to which Greenland belongs – as well as Canada and Mexico have strongly rejected these ideas.
Last Tuesday, during the message she gave for her Second Government Report, Sheinbaum acknowledged that the relationship with the United States has had “difficulties,” but assured that she has made the decision “to always seek understanding.”
