In this regard, a spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs defended that North Korea’s nuclear armament allows “guaranteeing containment” given the “serious situation” the country faces, which every day assumes “more risks” against U.S. policies despite the rapprochement attempts by the administration of U.S. President Donald Trump.
“Our weapons are an absolute guarantee to defend our sovereignty and this allows it. Having them is the right and responsible option to ensure that there is peace and security in the region,” he said, according to a statement collected by the North Korean state agency KCNA.
“This stance cannot be diluted or weakened by the repeated expression of the United States, which continues to bet on that denuclearization,” he clarified, while warning that the “confrontation” between the parties “can be clearly seen.”
Thus, he accused Washington of having “openly” shown its “hostile, extremely sinister and perverse attempt to tarnish the image of our country and generate internal instability by talking about alleged human rights abuses.”
