Petro claims to have evidence of electoral fraud with modifications to the census and voting tables

Colombian President Gustavo Petro stated this Tuesday that he has evidence of the electoral fraud he denounced after the first round of the presidential elections, claiming that there have been modifications in the census and voting tables that explain the victory of the far-right candidate Abelardo de la Espriella, against the continuist contender, Iván Cepeda.

“I present the verified bases of the possible fraud. Which I can deliver to the competent authority. I said I did not recognize the data from the pre-count of the Bautista brothers’ software because I have data,” he said referring to the company Thomas Greg, contracted for electoral logistics and that aggregates the information from each table to offer the pre-count, the first projection of the results before the official scrutiny.

Specifically, Petro emphasized that the software is “vulnerable from inside and outside” and that this case shows that the Registry did not have control over this technology which was modified twice before the elections.

“In response to my complaint that the software was modified on days when by legal norm it should remain unchanged, the registrar said it was impossible,” he said, regretting that this case “only indicates that the Registry has no control over the software.”

In his view, the irregularity comes from “modifying the electoral census and the number of polling stations and tables” and he estimates 885,409 “new ID cards that were not registered on the legal date” as the divergence between the official census and the pre-count software, while noting that the software counts 696 more voting stations.

“This causes a change in the total numbers,” he indicated, emphasizing that precisely there are 5,300 tables that record “more than 300 votes in the day,” “which is the maximum number that can vote during election hours,” “many reach 700 votes.”

According to his description, in those tables is “where the advantage of 635,000 with which Abelardo surpasses Cepeda is located.” “I provide the complete data of the 5,300 tables,” he stressed, insisting that he makes available to the authorities the data that support the alleged irregularities denounced the day before and that in any case have not been supported by Cepeda himself.
