The United States Government has granted permanent residency to Eduardo Bolsonaro, son of former president Jair Bolsonaro and sentenced to four years in prison for coercion of justice, within the framework of the coup d’état case against his father, as reported by Brazilian journalist Paulo Figueiredo.

Figueiredo, a trusted person of the Bolsonaro clan and accused for his alleged participation in the coup d’état, congratulated Eduardo on his social networks for the granting of this “green card”, the name by which the document that allows legal residence and work in the United States is known.
“You deserve it! Here, in the land of the free, you are protected. We will continue fighting together so that Brazil no longer has exiles and so that our people are also freed from the yoke of this regime,” he said, explaining that Eduardo was granted residency for his “extraordinary abilities.”

Eduardo Bolsonaro was sentenced just over a month ago to four years in prison, under a semi-open regime, and another eight years of disqualification from holding public office for coercion against Brazilian justice, within the framework of the coup d’état case against his father, who is serving a 27-year prison sentence.
The conviction states that Eduardo led a plot from the United States to hinder the case against his father. This includes Washington’s tariffs on Brazilian exports, the suspension of visas for government members, and sanctions against the Supreme Court judge and case rapporteur, Alexandre de Moraes.
According to Brazilian media, Eduardo Bolsonaro would have requested this documentation more than a year ago, but it would not have been until this month that it was granted. The son of the former president has assured that he now feels “safe” and that Judge De Moraes’ “abuses” in the United States “are worth nothing.”
“I can only thank the Trump administration for their consideration. I followed the process, met the requirements, and now the result has arrived. I came to the United States with the intention of spending only a few days and ended up having to go into exile due to persecution in Brazil,” he declared to the Metrópoles portal.
Meanwhile, the Federal Police has concluded the disciplinary file opened against Eduardo Bolsonaro at the end of January this year for dereliction of duty and has recommended to the Ministry of Justice his dismissal from the institution.
Bolsonaro, who worked as an administrative assistant at the Police delegation in Angra dos Reis, a municipality located in the southwest of Rio de Janeiro, also lost his seat as a deputy due to his unjustified absences from parliament, despite attempting to work remotely from the United States.
After Congress concluded his mandate, the Federal Police ordered his reincorporation into the institution, which had granted him leave to serve as a deputy, which he had been doing since 2015.
