At least six people died in a shooting recorded last Saturday in a neighborhood south of Guatemala City, the capital of said country, in circumstances that are still under investigation.

According to the city’s emergency teams, the armed attack was recorded in the municipality of Villa Canales in the department of Guatemala, where four young people under 23, another man aged 29, and a 58-year-old woman died.
According to a medical report from the Fire Department, “paramedics provided pre-hospital care and transferred two injured people: a man to the emergency room of Roosevelt Hospital and a woman to the emergency room of IGSS 7/19, to receive specialized medical attention”.
Likewise, the report indicated that two of the deceased were known for their activity on social media.

Last April, local media reported a massacre inside a cevichería in northern Guatemala City, where five people were killed, allegedly by gang members.
Both events are part of an increase in firearm murders in the Central American country: they increased by 3.8% during 2025 compared to 2024, according to official calculations.
According to the National Institute of Forensic Sciences (Inacif), last year 3,020 firearm murders were recorded, while in 2024, 2,910 people were shot dead.
