The leader of the French far-right party National Rally, Marine Le Pen, accused the Spanish Government on Friday of “encouraging the massive entry of migrants” into Spanish territory and called for strengthening controls in France, words that come after thousands of migrants accessed the autonomous city of Ceuta since Thursday.

“Faced with the massive and coordinated entries of migrants into Spain, encouraged by the Spanish Government, France must without delay strengthen controls at its borders,” the French politician asserted.
Thus, she stated that France will opt to “stop this madness by reserving free movement within the Schengen area to nationals of the European Union,” as indicated in a statement released on social media.

Thousands of migrants have accessed the autonomous city since Thursday by swimming and also on foot along the breakwater that separates Ceuta from Morocco. Police sources specify that more than 20,000 people would have entered Spain, while at least 16 have lost their lives in the last 24 hours.
There are already 47 foreigners found dead in Ceuta waters in attempts to swim across from Morocco so far this year. The migration crisis that Ceuta is experiencing is beginning to resemble the emergency that occurred in May 2021, when more than 10,000 migrants accessed the city in just two days.
