The President of the United States, Donald Trump, stated this Monday that the priority of the United States regarding Iran is to achieve “preventing” the Central Asian country from “possessing nuclear weapons”, words that contradict the statements recently made by his ‘number two’, Vice President JD Vance, who said that Washington’s main priority is to lower fuel prices for American citizens.
“The number one goal is, and always will be, that Iran does not have, in any way, nuclear weapons,” Trump insisted in a message shared through social media, where he seems to qualify the comments made days ago by Vance, who placed the arms issue second.
Although Washington maintains the naval blockade in the Strait of Hormuz, Vance has shown on several occasions his firm opposition to the prolongation of the war in the Middle East and has expressed his rejection of a deployment of U.S. troops in the area.

Additionally, gasoline prices in the United States have continued to rise over the past weeks and the cost of energy poses a significant political risk for Republicans ahead of the midterm elections scheduled for next November.
