Two giants in the world of artificial intelligence (AI), Sam Altman and Elon Musk, agreed with an essay published by Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei, who warned about the risks of losing control and called to slow down the AI race.

In an essay published on his website this Saturday, Amodei raised the need to “slow down the pace at which we improve the capabilities of AI models. Progress will still seem fast, and we must wisely use the time we gain.”
The text was published days after the public resignation of Jacob Coxon, an Anthropic researcher. “I spent the last three years researching pretraining at OpenAI and Anthropic. Neither company is acting responsibly. They are heading straight toward a self-improving superintelligence and betting with our lives,” he stated this past September 8.
Along the same lines, the CEO of Anthropic warned that the progress of models has accelerated to the point of beginning to show processes of “recursive self-improvement,” and that the rapid increase in AI’s faculties could surpass human capacity to control and understand it.
Among his proposals, Amodei committed to opening his company to external evaluators with permanent access. He also urged aiming for government agreements and coordinating standards and limits among companies.
Thus, Altman, head of OpenAI, agreed on regulating the pace. “This has been a primary topic of discussions we have had at OpenAI in recent weeks. Committing to having independent evaluations with access like employees is a great idea, and we will do the same. We will have more to announce soon,” he said.
For his part, magnate Elon Musk, founder of XAI, stated on his X account: “Dario is right.”
