The outgoing president of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, ordered this Sunday that “no” military establishment be used for the inauguration of the president-elect Abelardo de la Espriella, reaffirming that until the transfer of power he will remain the commander of the Armed Forces of his country.

“The military and police barracks are under my orders until the moment the new president takes the oath and, therefore, until that moment I am the supreme commander of the military forces,” Petro said in a message on social media.

In his post on X he also ordered that “no military establishment be used for the inauguration of a president of the Republic of Colombia”.

Likewise, he reiterated his speech that the new government “was not voted by the majority of the people,” adding that it is in a full session of Congress where the next head of the Colombian Executive must take office, “under the laws of the Republic and the constitution”.

“The law states where the seat of the Congress of the Republic is, where the laws of the people and not of the mafias or foreigners must be debated, laws are not made in the barracks, security actions for the defense of the people and their lives are made,” he emphasized.

He also said that “national sovereignty has been broken by foreigners who usurped the people’s right to freely choose.”

It is worth adding that last Friday, the outgoing president again insisted that voting records abroad were manipulated during the second round of the presidential elections on June 21, after which he reproached the National Electoral Council (CNE) for refusing to carry out the corresponding scrutiny.
