At least eight people died and 19 others were injured during the night of this Thursday as a result of a new wave of bombings launched by the United States against various points in southern Iran, marking the sixth consecutive day of U.S. attacks on Iranian territory amid the military escalation between the two countries.
The preliminary toll was provided by Iranian health authorities, who reported that the victims were mainly concentrated in the provinces of Fars and Hormozgan, where impacts were recorded on road infrastructure, residential neighborhoods, and strategic transportation and communication points.
The attack with the highest number of victims occurred in Jamir county, located in Fars province near the Persian Gulf, where the offensive hit at least six bridges in the area.
According to the latest report released by the Hormozgan University of Medical Sciences and collected by the Iranian agency Fars, the bombing left seven people dead and nine others injured, becoming the most severe episode of the day.
Local authorities did not provide details about the identity of the victims nor specify whether there were military personnel among them or exclusively civilians.
In a second offensive, U.S. forces bombed a residential area of the port city of Bandar Abbas, also in Hormozgan province.
The attack left one person dead and eight others injured, in addition to causing damage to a communications tower, which led to power outages in various parts of the city.
The same locality was the scene of a third bombing targeting the railway junction. In that incident, two people were reported injured, although Iranian authorities indicated that the damage to the infrastructure was “minimal” and that railway operations were not significantly affected.
After the operation, the United States Central Command (Centcom) confirmed the offensive in a statement asserting that the actions began at 9:00 p.m. and aimed to further reduce Iranian military capabilities.
According to the U.S. military body, fighter jets, drones, and warships participated, using precision munitions to attack multiple strategic facilities distributed in the south of the country.
Among the targets hit, Washington mentioned coastal surveillance facilities, air defense systems, military logistics infrastructure, and Iranian maritime capabilities.
Centcom stated that the operation managed to impact “dozens of military targets,” although it did not provide a specific number of destroyed facilities nor report on possible Iranian military casualties.
Along with confirming the attacks, the U.S. Army highlighted that it maintains a broad military deployment in the region, amid the worsening security situation.
Central Command indicated that currently more than 50,000 U.S. troops remain deployed at various points in the Middle East and assured that they continue to be “vigilant, lethal, and prepared” to respond to any scenario arising from the conflict.
