Israel’s Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, has stated that he will visit New York during his upcoming trip to the United States despite recent threats made by the city’s mayor, Zohran Mamdani, who openly considered arresting the Israeli leader, against whom there is an arrest warrant from the International Criminal Court (ICC) even though his administration does not have the authority to execute such an order.
“First of all, I am going to New York… I am going to tell the truth in front of this elected official who spits hate,” Netanyahu said during an interview with Fox News referring to Mamdani’s harsh criticisms.
In this regard, he lamented that the mayor is “pitting one group of New Yorkers against another.” “He is turning them against the Jews of New York. I mean, what are we, in the 1930s? So much hate. So many lies,” he warned.
Netanyahu plans to travel again to the United States in September to attend the UN General Assembly. This was confirmed by Israel’s own ambassador to the UN, Danny Danon, who guaranteed that he will attend the event and return to Israel without anyone being able to prevent it.
The Israeli prime minister himself already addressed this issue in a previous interview, during which he accused Mamdani of openly defending the crimes of the Islamist Hamas movement during the attacks by Palestinian militias on October 7 against Israeli territory.
However, Netanyahu faces an ICC arrest warrant for war crimes and crimes against humanity for ordering the Israeli Army’s offensive against the Gaza Strip. The problem lies in the fact that the United States is not part of the court nor recognizes the validity of its decisions.
