The government of Peru declared this Sunday a state of emergency in five districts of the country due to the magnitude 7.2 earthquake last Thursday, which has left nearly 500 people affected and three injured.

Specifically, the measure will be in effect for 60 days in the districts of Chumpi, Coracora, Pullo, and Upahuacho, in the province of Parinacochas, and in the district of Carapo, in the province of Huanca Sancos.
According to the decree published in the official newspaper El Peruano, with this measure the Executive seeks the execution of exceptional, immediate, and necessary response and rehabilitation measures and actions.
Therefore, emergency work was assumed by the Regional Government of Ayacucho and the local governments involved, with the technical coordination of the National Institute of Civil Defense (Indeci) and the participation of the ministries of Health, Education, Housing, Construction and Sanitation; Transport and Communications; Interior and Defense.
The document determined that the goods considered for donation in natural disaster situations include, among others, medicines, sunscreens, vaccines, medical and/or related equipment, insect repellents, food, beverages, clothing, and warm textiles.
Additionally, machinery and equipment, electric generators, fuels, construction articles and materials, water purification treatment plants, transistor radios and batteries, plastic materials and articles, tents, awnings, and sleeping bags, among others.
The regulation also determined that catering, medical, transportation, dispatch logistics, transfer, and storage services, among others, would be provided free of charge during those days.
