A Russian drone hit a train near the border between Ukraine and Poland on Sunday afternoon. The incident occurred shortly after senior security officials and former European authorities traveled through the area on another train.
According to reports from European media, there were no casualties from the drone impact on the train locomotive two kilometers from the Polish border, in Yahodyn, as the 206 passengers were able to be evacuated.
However, the Ukrainian railway agency reported that a train carrying former British Prime Minister, Boris Johnson; former Swedish Prime Minister, Carl Bildt; former CIA director, David Petraeus; and other senior European security officials, may have been the target of the attack.
This is because the mentioned train had traveled through the area where the train that was hit by the Russian drones was located. The incident occurred amid Russia’s acknowledgments of having carried out an offensive against “railway infrastructure” in western Ukraine. However, the Ukrainian railway company Ukrzaliznytsia reported that “very possibly, the target of this drone could have been the diplomatic train.”
“Putin’s terror calling directly at the doors of the EU and NATO,” accused the Ukrainian Foreign Minister, Andrii Sybiha, regarding the attack.
In an interview with BBC, former Swedish Prime Minister Carl Bildt said that passengers on the train he boarded were asked to prepare for a possible evacuation before being allowed to continue the journey.

“On the train I was traveling on, we received the order to prepare for evacuation after it stopped. But after a few minutes, we were informed that the track was clear and we could continue,” he told the cited media.
For his part, former Prime Minister Boris Johnson accused on X that “I don’t know what twisted logic led Putin to blow up a stationary Ukrainian locomotive at the Polish border this morning. What we can say for sure is that this is the kind of random and senseless attack that Ukrainians endure every day, even on civilian railways.”
“So far, Putin has been responsible for the death of 1,700 Ukrzaliznytsia employees, the Ukrainian Railways. They and their daily passengers are absolutely heroic,” he questioned.
Along those lines, he added: “The Ukrainians are going to win; that has been clear from the last three days in their wonderful country. But we will end this terrible war much faster if we all get serious and give them what they need and deserve.”
It is worth noting that the train carrying Johnson, Bildt, Petraeus, and company managed to reach the Polish border station of Dorohusk without incident.
