The United States Army indicated this Thursday that it has prevented the passage of 127 merchant ships through the Strait of Hormuz while allowing the crossing of 36 vessels containing humanitarian aid, in what is already more than six weeks of a perimeter closure of the area announced by US President Donald Trump, amid ongoing contacts to end the conflict.
The United States Army Central Command (CENTCOM) has indicated on its social media that “as of June 4, US forces have diverted 127 merchant ships, immobilized six non-compliant vessels and allowed the passage of 36 ships carrying humanitarian aid.”
Tension in the Strait of Hormuz remains latent despite the indefinite truce in force.

Although the US government confirmed last Thursday a preliminary agreement with Iran to extend the truce for two more months and guarantee passage through the area, Washington continues to impose sanctions against ships and entities for their links to Iranian oil trade in an attempt to maintain pressure on Tehran.
