The President of the United States, Donald Trump, announced this Sunday that his administration will begin “very soon” to use Venezuelan oil to replenish the Strategic Petroleum Reserve of the country.

Through a post on Truth Social, the president assured that part of the crude oil coming from Venezuela will be destined to recover the stocks of the U.S. reserve.
“One of the things I will do with Venezuelan oil is fill the Strategic National Reserves that, due to the inept Joe Biden, have practically been emptied. The full filling process will begin very soon and it is a gift from Venezuela to the people of the United States,” Trump wrote.
The announcement comes two days after the president reported an oil agreement between the United States and Venezuela, through which U.S. companies will take control of just over 20% of the proven crude oil reserves of the South American country.
The acting president of Venezuela, Delcy Rodríguez, provided some details of the agreement on Saturday and assured that it contemplates a production of 1.5 million barrels per day, a duration of 25 years, and the development of 17 strategic fields.
According to Rodríguez, those areas have “a proven potential of 65 billion barrels of oil.”
So far, however, not all the terms of the pact have been made public.
The agreement deepens the rapprochement between Washington and Caracas after the United States captured former Venezuelan president Nicolás Maduro in January and the government was headed by Rodríguez.
Trump’s announcement also aims to recover the stocks of the U.S. strategic reserve, which, according to available background, has experienced a significant reduction in recent months.
