At least 35 people died and another 30 were injured this Saturday after the collision between two passenger buses on the road connecting Damascus with the eastern province of Deir al Zor, in Syria.

According to the Syrian Ministry of Health, the accident involved a bus transporting members of the Internal Security Forces and another civilian passenger vehicle. The state agency SANA indicated that the impact occurred on that road corridor, one of the main routes connecting the center and east of the country.
After the crash, emergency teams and medical personnel went to the scene to assist the survivors, while military helicopters participated in the evacuation of the injured to medical centers.

So far, authorities have not reported the causes of the accident and indicated that the circumstances of the collision remain under investigation.
Syria’s interim president, Ahmed al-Sharaa, expressed his condolences to the families of the victims and ordered the competent institutions to mobilize all necessary resources to care for the injured and support response efforts after the tragedy.
