The acting president of Venezuela, Delcy Rodríguez, thanked this Saturday the “kind words” of President José Antonio Kast, after the start of a roadmap was agreed upon to progressively normalize consular relations between both countries following two years of rupture, and called to establish a joint cooperation agenda.
“I want to thank the words of the president of Chile, Kast, his kind words, we have started the process of resuming consular relations, with a view to fully restoring our relations,” said the Venezuelan provisional head of state during a government event broadcast by Venezolana de Televisión (VTV), according to EFE.
Then adding: “I appreciate your words, president, and you can count on a Venezuelan who is in charge of international relations to move forward together and for our South American countries to move together on a common agenda, on an agenda of cooperation, on an agenda of friendship”.
Last Thursday, July 30, through a joint declaration by the Chilean and Venezuelan governments, both countries announced the decision to reactivate their consular relations.
After the statement became known, Kast, accompanied by Foreign Minister Francisco Pérez Mackenna, confirmed the reactivation of consular relations with Venezuela, in a new stage for the start of normalization of the bilateral link broken in 2024.

This after the administration of former president Gabriel Boric questioned the transparency of the pronouncement of the Venezuelan National Electoral Council (CNE), which on July 28, 2024, declared Nicolás Maduro the winner against opposition candidate Edmundo González in the presidential election.
“I want to thank the Minister of Foreign Affairs and the entire Foreign Ministry team, who in a serious, methodical way, have achieved this significant agreement that allows us to advance step by step in the normalization of relations between Chile and Venezuela,” said the President in a brief press point from La Moneda.
On the occasion, he also said he wanted to “appreciate the willingness of the Venezuelan government and greet the acting president, Delcy Rodríguez, for the willingness to advance in this joint roadmap.”
Then stating that “from today, Chile and Venezuela begin a new stage, which will allow us to advance in tremendous challenges we have as countries on the same continent. Challenges that speak of security, migration, and economic development.”
