The President of the United States, Donald Trump, assured this Saturday that he decided to cancel a military attack against the Islamic Republic of Iran, after – according to him – Tehran and other Middle Eastern countries had requested to suspend any offensive after reaching a preliminary agreement aimed at reopening the Strait of Hormuz and ending the Iranian nuclear threat.

Through a post on his social network Truth Social, the president stated that the US Armed Forces were prepared to carry out a large-scale operation, but he chose to stop it pending a possible diplomatic understanding.
“The United States is ready and prepared against the Islamic Republic of Iran, with levels of military terror, force, and power not seen since World War II,” Trump wrote at the beginning of his message.
The Republican leader added that Iran and other Middle Eastern countries requested to postpone any attack because “the parameters of an agreement have been agreed upon.”
According to him, that possible understanding includes “the immediate, complete, and total opening of the Strait of Hormuz” and “the end of Iran’s nuclear threat.”
“Based on this request, I have agreed to cancel the attack, for the future benefit of the world and also for the survival of a successful and prosperous Iran, provided that we can quickly reach an agreement,” he stated.
Trump added that Israel supports this decision and concluded his message with a call to finalize the understanding. “Israel joins me in this commitment. Everyone get to work and make it happen,” he said.

The announcement by the US president occurs in a context of high tension in the Middle East, marked by the exchange of attacks between Washington and Tehran, the closure of the Strait of Hormuz by Iran, and the deployment of security measures by the United States in the region.
During this day, the US embassies in various Middle Eastern countries issued new security alerts for their citizens, warning about the risk of an escalation of the conflict and recommending extreme precautions in the face of possible airspace closures, flight cancellations, and potential attacks against US interests.
The most severe warning was issued by the US embassy in Iraq, which urged its citizens to leave the country as soon as possible due to the risk of attacks by groups aligned with Iran.
Trump’s recent measure also represents a change from the tone he had maintained in recent days. During an event at Camp David, the president had publicly expressed his frustration with the progress of negotiations with Iran and warned that the United States could resume military operations.
On that occasion, he stated that he was “losing faith” in the Iranian authorities and assured that Washington would respond forcefully after attributing recent attacks against US interests in the region to Tehran.
Despite those warnings, the president now stated that he decided to suspend the offensive, conditioning that decision on the negotiations quickly advancing toward a definitive agreement on the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and the Iranian nuclear program.
