The 19th edition of the International Family Theater Festival will take place between August 8 and 23, featuring 33 plays from Chilean and international companies. The lineup will also extend with performances in La Pintana, Lampa, San Ramón, Concepción, and Rapa Nui. Under the motto “Let’s sow new worlds,” this new edition aims to make theater a space for meeting, imagination, and shared experiences.
Below we recommend three unmissable plays that will be part of the festival.
Designed for babies and children from 6 months old, “La Caracol” offers an experience where contemporary dance, sounds, and textures blend to tell the story of a little snail who lives sheltered in her shell and gradually dares to discover the world around her.
The production by the La Enredadera Scenic Collective from Valparaíso seeks to bring early childhood closer to themes such as diversity, solidarity, and the value of making decisions, in a 35-minute staging designed to awaken the senses and imagination.
“La Caracol” will be presented on Saturday, August 22 and Sunday, August 23 at 12:00 and 16:00 hours at the Teatro Mori Vitacura. Tickets cost $10,000 for the general public and $5,000 for girls, boys, students, and senior citizens.

Inspired by the figure and legacy of Gabriela Mistral, “Tesoro” invites the audience to explore the public space of GAM through an audio tour co-created and led by children between 7 and 15 years old. The experience transforms the plazas into a stage for exploration, memory, and a treasure hunt, bringing Gabriela Mistral’s perspective on childhood and education in a playful and participatory way.
“The treasures of a space like GAM are revealed thanks to the gaze of children who, without the productive urgency of adults, pay attention to what we take for granted; there the heritage of a place is revealed in a very concrete way,” says its director, Paula Aros Gho.
The experience lasts 60 minutes and takes place outdoors, so it is necessary to bring a charged mobile phone with internet access, as well as personal headphones. It is also recommended to wear comfortable and light clothing, as the tour involves walking through the GAM facilities.
“Tesoro” will be presented on Saturday, August 15 and Sunday, August 16, at 17:30 hours, on the tour through the GAM Plazas. Tickets cost $8,000 for the general public and $5,000 for girls, boys, students, and senior citizens.

How to talk with children about death, loss, and pain? “The Sad Monster Behind the Secret Door” seeks to open that conversation through theater, with a story that combines acting, object theater, visual poetry, and live music. The play tells the story of Alicia, who lives between four walls and a door she is forbidden to open. But at night she hears sobbing on the other side and, while adults prefer to remain silent, she decides to approach what everyone fears to look at.
The new play by the company La Monomito combines theater, live music, and a staging designed to address themes such as pain, loss, and grief from a sensitive and close perspective. Recommended for ages 7 and up, it lasts 60 minutes and also aims to become a starting point for children and adults to talk about emotions that are often difficult to name.
The play will be presented on Sundays August 16 and 23 at 12:00 and 16:00 hours at the Teatro Mori Parque Arauco. Tickets cost $10,000 for the general public and $5,000 for girls, boys, students, and senior citizens.
