The new Prime Minister of the United Kingdom and former Mayor of Manchester, Andy Burnham, announced that he will establish “the government’s new crisis room” in the northern English city and there he will chair a meeting this Friday with senior ministers and regional mayors to study the decentralization of powers.

“For 40 years, power and resources have been concentrated in central government, and too many communities have felt forgotten, without the attention or investment they deserve,” Burnham said in a statement.
He also assures that “Number 10 North (name of the new executive headquarters inspired by the official residence in London) will change this situation, granting greater power to every postcode in the country”.
In this way, Heron House, located in the center of Manchester, “will be the crisis room to improve Great Britain: the place we will use to transfer power from Westminster to citizens at a local level, so that they can transform the situation.”
“The days when Whitehall resisted decentralization are definitely over,” Burnham argued.

In the same text, sent by the British government, it is pointed out that the prime minister will work from 10 North “every week, so that decisions about the country’s economic future are no longer made exclusively in Westminster”.
“Other ministers will also work regularly from 10 North, which underlines this Government’s determination to do things differently,” the official note adds.
This work will begin this Friday, when Burnham chairs the first meeting of the now reactivated National Economic Council in the aforementioned facilities.
