After presenting “Cama Fría,” the first preview of their upcoming album, Columpios al Suelo returns with Noche Estrellada, a new single that expands the band’s sonic horizon and anticipates the spirit of what is to come for the continuation of Colores (2022), their latest released work.
With a duration of eight and a half minutes, “Noche Estrellada” unfolds an expansive and deeply emotional journey. Between the noise and forcefulness of its guitars, bass, and drums contrasting with the dreamy keyboards and a melancholic voice that crosses the landscape with pop melodies and instrumental passages that evoke the spirit of Ira Kaplan (Yo La Tengo), my bloody valentine, and Sonic Youth, the song builds an imagery where intensity coexists with contemplation.
In the words of the band, the song is “one of our favorites. Stadium shoegaze, it has an anthemic vocation that seeks to envelop the listener while experiencing a sonic journey.”
The lyrics describe the disorientation left by an absence. “The city transforms into a spiral of memories where the body and memory blur, while the desire for escapism resolves in the image of a starry night as a refuge from pain. More than a song about a breakup, it is a journey through grief, desires, and the difficulty of letting go of what is no longer there,” the group comments.
Consolidating the now classic lineup with Juan Desordenado on vocals and guitar, Raúl Guzmán on drums, and Felipe Villarrubia on bass, the new additions of Camilo Astorga on guitar and Bárbara Ulloa on synthesizer and backing vocals are fundamental in the band’s sonic evolution.
The album was recorded at the GAM Center studios and mixed by Carlos Doerr at Sultan Studio, the song was mastered by Francisco Holzmann, while the cover and the visual universe of this new stage were in charge of the national artist María Jesús Troncoso (Marina Gris), through a series of sensitive and melancholic oil paintings.
Noche Estrellada confirms Columpios al Suelo’s pursuit to expand their language, combining memorable melodies with the noise that characterizes them so much, finding beauty in distortion. A new step towards an album that promises to be a spectrum of all the avenues the project traverses.
